What are the different options of accommodation under the GITES DE FRANCE label ?

There are 5 options of accommodation :

The "Gîte": converted in a house or part of a house, with respect for the local style, it's a self-catering holiday home, mostly located in the countryside. It can be rented for one or several weeks throughout the year, but also for a weekend except during the school holidays.

The "Chambre d'Hôtes" labelled "Charmance": it's a French-style bed and breakfast !  For one or several nights, you'll be warmly welcomed into private homes. Sometimes, you'll be offered to share the table d'hôte meal (book ahead for this option).

The Gîte for group/ stopover gite: these large accommodations are perfectly suited to families and groups who want to spend one or several nights together. Stopover gites welcome hikers, cyclists and horse riders for them to rest staying overnight.

The gîte for children: during the school holidays, children (from 4 to 16 years) are offered to share the life of a qualified family in the countryside. They'll have the opportunity to take part in all sorts of cultural and outdoor activities.

The country campsite "Pré Vert": it's a campsite area in a good-quality nature environment, providing sanitary arrangements and shaded grounds.

How are accommodations rated ?

•According to its situation and comfort, each accommodation in the countryside is classified in "ears of corn", complying with a national quality charter. The self-catering gîtes are awarded 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 ears of corn, the B&B from 1 to 4, and the Gîtes for groups/stopover gîtes from 1 to 3 ears of corn. A 1 "ear of corn" accommodation is basic, whereas 4 or 5 "ears of corn" lodging houses offer a very high level of comfort with exceptional surroundings and amenities.

•City break accommodations, located in town, are classified in 2 categories: "Confort" and "Premium".

Confort : high-standard building, old or contemporary, Internet access, tasteful decoration, practical and comfortable equipments...

Premium : top-of-the-range deliveries of service, very comfortable, building with character or steeped in history, Internet access & LCD screen, very spacious...
